“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but to Your name give glory, because of Your mercy, because of Your truth.” (Psalm 115:1 NKJV)
“God, glorify your name! Yes, your name alone be glorified, not ours. For you are the one who loves us passionately, and you are faithful and true” (Psalm 115:1 TPT)
“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 115:1 NLT)
“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth and faithfulness.” (Psalm 115:1 AMP)
“Not to us Yahweh, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your faithful love, because of Your truth.” (Psalm 115:1 HCSB)
“Not to us, LORD JEHOVAH, not to us, but to your name give honor, because of your kindness and because of your truth.” (Psalm 115:1 ABIPE)
Here we go with another Psalm. When reading the Psalms of David I can tell what kind of a mood, or what life circumstance, he is in the midst of by how he starts the Psalm. When David is down, or in the midst of a battle, he will typically start by crying out to Yahweh. When times are good, he will typically begin with praise and recognition of the greatness of God. In either condition, he normally moves into praise and worship before the Psalm ends. During this “Season of Psalms” I have been reminded of the fact that my Daddy is involved in every facet of my life, and worthy of continual praise and worship.
The best way to stay on track in life is to continually remind myself of just how great my Daddy is. When I place my focus on myself, or the things around me, I find myself living at a lower level than I was designed for. David knew this, which is why he started in Psalm 115:1 by reminding himself to take his eyes off himself and place them on his Father in Heaven. My name is not the name by which everything was created. My name is not the name to which every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess lordship. My name is not the name worth being glorified.
David points me to the only name worthy of praise and worship, Yahweh (LORD, Jehovah). He is the one whose name is above all names named on earth, above the earth, and below the earth. His name is great and greatly to be praised. He is worthy of this recognition simply because of who He is, however, it is the demonstration, and manifestation, of His abiding presence in my life that draws out my praise.
My Daddy loves me at all times regardless of my current attitudes or actions. He is good to me based on His goodness, not my degree of worthiness. He is faithful to me even when I am unfaithful to Him. He is faithful and true at all times. I glorify His name as I live in the freedom of His truth.
As we begin meditating on Psalm 115, like David let’s begin by recognizing the source of everything. Let’s take our focus off from ourselves, and place it on our Daddy, as we meditate on…
