I absolutely love the way David thinks. He honestly assessed his situation. He openly acknowledged his life condition without holding back or sugar coating it. But (the key word here) rather than dwelling on his growing problem he immediately moved to the solution. I think it is important to notice who David was talking to. He was talking to Yahweh, not to other people. Verses one and two were not an expression of fear or doubt. He was not sharing his struggles with his peers in hope of getting sympathy. He was not complaining and calling it a prayer request. He was talking to the only one who could help him. This was an acknowledgment from David to his Father that he was in a bad situation. Verse three shows me that David knew exactly what to do about his attackers.
David decreed that his Father was his shield that surrounded him. He had no vulnerabilities in his protection. There was no reason to ring his hands or hang his head in despair. He looked past the problems to his solution. He ignored the voices that proclaimed that he was doomed and spoke forth the truth of his deliverance. To paraphrase Jesus, he spoke to his mountain, not about his mountain.
Daddy is asking me today, “What do you see Eric? Are your eyes consumed with the size of your difficulties, or do you see me? What are you hearing Eric? Are you hearing the voices of doom and gloom, or are you hearing me?”
I will do an eye and ear check as I pray about…
