“Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.” (John 7:24 NIV)
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” (Luke 6:37 BSB)
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103: 8-10 NKJV)
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to evaluate and label a group based on the “vocal minority” within the group?
I want to talk to my community for a minute. If you don’t see yourself as part of my community, that’s cool. Feel free to listen in.
Hey, Body of Christ (Christian Community),
Why is it that we keep turning our diversity into division?
Why do we see and/or hear things from a few individuals within a different part of the Body of Christ than we are part of and label the entire group?
For example..
We label those who call themselves “Fundamentalists” as “fighting fundies” or “legalists” because there are a few outspoken “Zealots” who take things beyond the intent of scripture.
We label those who call themselves “Penticostal” or “Charasmatic” as “Holy Rollers” or “Snake Charmers” because a few flamboyant “Extremists” make the news.
I could go on and on.
By the way, even labeling the “Zealots” and “Extremists” may not be accurate as some of them may be demonstrating a level of commitment to, or passion for, something or someone that my lesser level of commitment or passion blinds me to.
How about we allow the Holy Spirit and the Word to set appropriate boundaries and apply them with love and grace, embracing diversity, and avoiding division within the Body of Christ.
Those of you who choose not to be considered a part of this community, does any of this ring true within your community? Just asking by way of…
