“For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2 NLT)
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:24 NLT)
“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24 NLT)
For today’s lesson I have a bull’s-eye on my forehead squarely between my eyes. I have been aware of this lesson all of my life and have rarely effectively lived it. Even today, as I’m writing this, I’m realizing just how far I am from living this truth. However, that doesn’t mean that I should wait until tomorrow to share it.
I have served as the President of the Procrastinator’s Club for far too many years. I have known it is time to step down for quite a while now, however I have been putting it off for just the right time. Somehow it seems that the right time never comes. There is always something more to put off, so I just keep waiting for another day.
As the President of the Procrastinator’s Club I have lived by a strict motto…
…”I will not do until tomorrow what I should have done yesterday.”
Living by this motto keeps today free in case anything more important comes up. Of course, as the leader of the club my example is critical, so if something does come up, I quickly move it to tomorrow just to be safe, and not appear to be slipping in my commitment to the club’s motto.
There are a few fallacies that must be embraced in order to be in this club.
- It will be easier if I wait until later.
- It will feel better if I wait.
- I will have more time to get it done later.
- There will be less pressure if I wait.
- Etc…. (maybe I’ll take the time to list a few more tomorrow or the next day)
It is obvious that putting off until tomorrow is rarely the best route to take. Waiting, in most cases…
…makes things tougher,
…makes things feel worse,
…puts a crunch on the time available, and
…creates more pressure.
The Bible is very clear that waiting for tomorrow is a dangerous game to play. This is especially true when it comes to my relationship with my Creator. Today is the day of salvation. Don’t put off getting your relationship with the Heavenly Father right. He loves you so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die for you. He is waiting for you with open arms longing to adopt you into His family. Give Him your heart, and life, today. If you have already done this, PRAISE THE LORD! Now, what have you been putting off that you know in your heart your Heavenly Father wants you to get moving on? Now seems like a good time to get started (don’t worry, I have 4 fingers pointing at me).
I am resigning from my position as the President of the Procrastinator’s Club effective immediately. By God’s Grace I will do what needs to be done today. No more waiting, especially in spiritual matters.
Will you join me TODAY in living…
