“Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.” (Galatians 6:7 NLT)
“And law came in, that the offense might abound, and where sin abounded, grace hyper-abounded.” (Romans 5:20 LSV)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.”Jeremiah 29:11 BSB)
I am going to show my age for just a minute. One of my favorite all time actresses is Doris Day. She starred in movies that have stood the test of time. In the 1956 Alfred Hitchcock thriller “The man who knew too much”, in which she co-starred with James Stewart, Doris made famous the song “Que Sera, Sera (whatever will be, will be).”
That song was hugely influential in spreading the idea that you really don’t have an influence on what happens to you in life. If it’s your “destiny” it will happen one way or another. Might as well face it, “it is what it is.”
Much like it is impossible, until it isn’t; and it is a fact, until it isn’t; it is what it is, until it isn’t. I have learned that the way I think, the way I speak, and the actions I take, all have a great impact and influence on the conditions of my life. Much of what I am experiencing today is the result of what I have done in the past. The good news is that much of what I will experience in the future will come from what I do today.
One time when I was complaining to my Dad about a situation in my life he said to me, “Son, you can’t sow wild oats all week and pray for a crop failure on Sunday.” He was right, however I can plow under the current crop and replant the field. I can water the new seeds and pray for a quick harvest. It is what it is, until it isn’t.
Maybe, like me, you have made a ton of bad choices. Maybe, again like me, you have sown some wild oats (sinned and fallen short of God’s glory). Don’t fret, or fear, the fact that we recognize where we have fallen short is a good thing. Now we can confess our shortcomings and mistakes (sin) and receive forgiveness and restoration. Today’s “bad” crop will soon run out, and tomorrow’s “good” crop will be ready for harvest.
Don’t give up on…
