“No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;” (Psalm 91:10 NKJV)
“We will always be shielded from harm. How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us?” (Psalm 91:10 TPT)
“No evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.” (Psalm 91:10 NLT)
“No evil will befall you, nor will any plague come near your tent.” (Psalm 91:10 AMP)
“No harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent.” (Psalm 91:10 HCSB)
“Evil shall not come near you and disease shall not come near your dwellings.” Psalm 91:10 ABIPE)
Psalm 91:10 is an outrageous promise. Based on the experience of my life, and the experieince of everyone I know personally, how in the world can I take this seriously? Come on David, “No harm will come to me? Really? No evil shall befall me? C’mon, since when? No plague? What about my wife who died from Covid?
If I am going to be real, I have to admit that when I read a verse like Psalm 91:10 questions like these bombard my mind. I want to believe that this verse is a literal promise for me, but it just seems too good to be true. I am tempted to water it down, or keep it in the category of wishes. As a matter of fact, if I walk up to someone in the Mall today and boldly proclaim, “You know what? From this day forward I will always be shielded from harm, and no disease will infect me!” Their first thought will be, “Sure man, you wish.” Or, “What a dreamer.” Or maybe, “That guy’s a loon.”
1 Corinthians 5:7 in the Passion Translation says, “For we live by faith, not by what we see with our eyes.”
Romans 10:17 in the Berean Standard Bible reads, “Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” I love how this is communicated through the Passion Translation, “Faith then is birthed in a heart that responds to God’s anointed utterance of the Anointed One.”
As I hide Psalm 91:10 in my heart (memorize it), and let the Spirit use it to renew my mind (meditate on it), I begin to hear the “word of Christ.” As I “respond to God’s “anointed utterance” (His Word within me) faith is “birthed” in my heart. Then, as I live according to what I am hearing on the inside, regardless of what I am experiencing on the outside, I am living by “faith,” not by what I am seeing with my eyes. It is in that moment that I begin to experience the manifestation of the promise which seems “unrealistic” and “too good to be true.” That is when my doubts begin to fade, my wishes become hope and faith (fervent expectation of God’s Goodness active in my life now and in the future), and the Promises become “yes and amen” in my life.
Psalm 91:10 is a “Kingdom Promise” which has already been deposited in my spirit by the Holy Spirit when I entered into a relationship with Christ (the Anointed One and His Anointing). It is not something out in the distance that I have to beg God to receive. It is mine regardless of how I think or feel. It is inside of me ready to be activated and released into the atmosphere of my life by faith.
Rest in Christ today. Allow Him to manifest His Kingdom Promises in your life today. As for me, I am going to fervently expect Kingdom provision and protection to overwhelm my life as I ponder…
