Let’s do a quick review of Psalm 91:1-10 before moving into verse 11…
Verse 1: There is a dwelling place for me. It is in the “secret place of the Most High.” Within my dwelling place there is a place for me to abide. I abide “under the shadow of the Almighty.” This is referring to my relationship with the Creator of the Universe, my Daddy.
Verse 2: After entering into a relationship with my Daddy in which I dwell and abide, He teaches me how to activate what He has for my life. It is by the power of my words, especially as I speak His Word. So what does He want me to say? I decree that “He is my refuge and fortress, my God.” I declare that I trust Him.
Verse 3: Now I am getting excited. Daddy starts to make promises to me. He has delivered me from my enemy. We know He is referring to Satan and his host. I am delivered from the evil that is all around me.
Verse 4: How am I delivered? By living in the presence of my Daddy. I am “covered” by Him. I have the confidence that anything that wants to harm me has to go through my Daddy first.
Verse 5: Now I am given a challenge, and an encouragement. I am encouraged knowing that I do not have to fear anything, or anyone. However, knowing that I am protected and do not have to fear is different that making a choice to reject fear. Many voices speak to me every day telling me to accept worry and fear as being “normal.” The challenge is to reject these voices, and the voice of fear itself, and live free of fear.
Verse 6: This verse continues to describe things that are going to tempt me to fear. I choose not to fear terror, fiery arrows from the enemy, pestilence, sickness, destruction, etc. Actually, I “don’t fear a thing!”
Verse 7: This verse reminds me that death and destruction will at times be in my face. I will “feel” them as they invade my space and try to get inside my bubble. However, they will not touch me and I do not have to touch them.
Verse 8: This verse emphasizes the reality that I will “see” the devastation in the world. I am not able to pull the covers over my head and close my eyes. A deep relationship with my Daddy protects me from harm, but it doesn’t remove me from its presence.
Verse 9: I am again reminded where I need to dwell in order to experience what I possess. It also challenges me once again to do my part. I must choose to remain in my dwelling place. It is up to me to “make” the LORD my “refuge.”
Verse 10: This promise blows my mind. It is so far above anything that I am able to ask or think that I can only receive it by faith. “No evil” (zip, none, nada) can touch me. I will “always” (every single time with no exemptions or exceptions) be “shielded from harm.” Good luck finding someone to agree with me for this verse. It is easy to wish, or maybe even hope for this, but to firmly stand on this promise takes guts. When I take this promise at face value, with no if, ands, or buts, and expect it to manifest in my life, I had better be ready to stand alone.
Now to take a look at Verse 11…
Verse 11 gives me one of the ways in which my Daddy brings these outlandish promises off the page and into the reality of my life. When I think, speak, and act, in agreement with His Word He sends angels with specific assignments into my life to bring me His provision and protection. This is another “faith” fact that I need to embrace. The ability of angels to carry out their assignments on my behalf is greatly impacted by what I say. I must line up my words with His Word. We are in a partnership in which my Daddy is the Senior Partner. He is infinitely more powerful than I am. He possesses all authority. However, as His Junior Partner, He has delegated much of His power and authority to me. I know from the New Testament that He does this through Christ. He sent Jesus to model how the partnership works, and then Jesus gave me the power of His blood and name so that I live in Daddy’s power and authority just like He did. That includes partnering with Daddy to direct the angels in their assignments that relate to me.
Wow, that is so much. I need to stop and give myself time to catch up with…
