When my son was a BMX racer I did my best to learn everything that I could in order to help him be the best racer he could be. One of the things that I learned about was “muscle memory.” I learned that through repetition we can train our muscles to “remember” responses, actions, and reactions, in order to do them automatically without conscious effort. In BMX that is especially important in getting the best possible start out of the starting gate.
Daddy showed me that the same impact that “muscle memory” has on an athlete’s athletic performance, “sin memory’ has on my life performance. According to David in Psalm 103:12, my sins have been removed from me. They have been moved far from my life. However, if I live as if they are still within me my “sin memory” traps me into a life that is negatively impacted as if the sins were still there. The Passion Translation shows that along with the sin, my guilt has also been removed. The Aramaic Bible in Plain English points out that this also pertains to the evil in my life.
When Jesus completed the work of redemption He reconciled me to my Father. To do this He paid the price for my sin, and cleansed me from all unrighteousness. He actually became sin and made me the righteousness of God. However, He didn’t stop there. Along with purifying me from the actual sin, He purified my conscience from sin. He erased my “sin memory.” In my spirit, the “real” Eric, I am perfect. I am without any presence of sin or imperfection. I am already seated at the right hand of my Father in Christ. My sins, evil, and guilt, have been removed from me as far as the east is from the west. They have been thrown into the sea of forgetfulness. Now I can work on building “righteousness memory.”
I an going to allow my Daddy to replace my “sin memory” with “righteousness memory” today as I consider…
