I remember as a kid making alot of big statements that I did not have the power or authority to back up. It is easy to make promises, it is another thing altogether to be able to bring them to pass. I see this all of the time in politics. Campaign promises that are too good to be true. Promises made every day in advertisements for products that never seem to live up to their claims. Have you ever noticed the huge difference between the burger you see on TV compared to the burger that you see when you open up the box from the drive through window? Even within the world of religion I have have been bombarded with unfulfilled promises by individuals with less than stellar integrity.
I live in a world that is so full of overstatements, false promises, and downright lies, that I have to fight from becoming skeptical of anyone, or anything, that makes claims that I cannot quickly prove. Psalm 103 makes promises that seem far too good to be true. How can I expect to experience these benefits that at times seem so far removed from the reality in which I find myself. All sins forgiven? All sicknesses healed? Completely renewed youth? C’mon, get real! I believe that the reason verse 19 was written was to put a foundation under these out of this world promises.
The benefits of the kingdom do not rest on my abilities, background, or experience. They do not gain their credibility through any person, or group of people. The promises made in Psalm 103 rest in the power and authority of the Creator of the universe, and the reality of His kingdom. My Daddy holds all of the ability, power, and authority to make good on His promises. He never has, and never will, break His Word or abandon His covenant with me. If He says it, it is a done deal!
I have a choice to make. I can either base my expectations on the kingdom that I live in on this earth (Kingdom of darkness), in which promises are of very little value; or I can base my expectations on the Kingdom that dwells within me (Kingdom of Light) in which there is nothing but Truth with not even a shadow of turning. My Daddy would not have spoken these great and precious promises if they were not 100% sure and credible.
I will trust the King and His Kingdom as I ponder…
