It is commonly held that the messengers that David is referring to in these verses are spiritual entities – angelic beings. Throughout scripture it is clear that there is a spiritual realm in which there are spiritual beings working both for us, and against us. Typically, I am not aware of the presence and activity of these heavenly hosts. So what can I learn about them from Psalm 103:20-21?
…They are messengers. This implies that part of what angels do is in the realm of communication. They are my Daddy’s cosmic cell phone.
…They are strong. Look at the descriptions given in the versions above. They “excel in strength.” They are “messengers of power,” “masters in power,” “mighty ones,” “Of great strength.”
…They are deliverers. The angels deliver the promises of my Daddy to me. I can see from scripture that they are involved in answering my prayers. They carry God’s Word and deliver it’s power into my life and circumstances.
…They are a heavenly army. David calls them “armies,” “hosts,” and “mighty warriors.”
…They are ministers of the Spoken Word. These verses clearly show that one of the main purposes for the existence of angels is to carry out the Word of God as it is spoken. The Word reveals my Daddy’s desire and design for me. As I speak it angels are activated, and motivated, to carry it out on my behalf. They are experts in bringing the Word from the spiritual realm into the material realm in which I am currently living.
I have an unseen reality surrounding me that is filled with spiritual beings that are warring over me. Those that are for me are far greater, in number and power, than those that are against me. As I begin to look beyond what I can see with my natural eyes, I start to realize that there is so much more to my life than I could ever imagine, including armies of angels waiting for me to give them direction by speaking the desires and designs of my Daddy (His Word).
I think we need to take time in the future to dig deeper into the truths shared in…
