“Now after John [the Baptist] was arrested and taken into custody, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the good news of [the kingdom of] God, and saying, “The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent [change your inner self – your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life] and believe [with a deep, abiding trust] in the good news [regarding salvation].” (Mark 1:14-15 AMP)
“Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “the kingdom of God does not come with observation, nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21 NKJV)
“But as it is, Christ has acquired a [priestly] ministry which is more excellent [than the old Levitical priestly ministry], for He is the Mediator (Arbiter) of a better covenant [uniting God and man], which has been enacted and rests on better promises.” (Hebrews 8:6 AMP)
It is time to move out of this current season of Psalms. David wrote these Psalms almost as if he were already living under the new covenant. His understanding of worship was far ahead of his time. His understanding of the Fatherhood of God was definitely above and beyond the nation that he was leading. Like Moses, he was able to look beyond the current perceptions of the “acts of God” into the “ways of God” (His nature and character as “Love” and “Good”). These Psalms reminded me of just how complete my Daddy’s protection and provision are for me. As His son, everything that is His is mine.
As I was pondering all of this, Daddy challenged me not to make the mistake of applying what I learned to my life through an “Old Covenant mindset.” There are many kingdom principles and precepts in the Old Testament that are of great value to me today. However, in order for me to fully experience the fruit of them I need to apply them to my life from a “New Covenant mindset.”
David penned Psalms 23 and 103 as a “pardoned Old Covenant servant of Yahweh.” I am a redeemed (saved, born again, reconciled, restored, etc.) “New Covenant son of Yahweh.” David, and all those living during the age in which he lived, had to “look up,” and “reach out,” in order to “receive” help from the Father. As a “new creation” (a species of being that never before existed) I have already received everything that I will ever need. I don’t reach out, or look up, instead I look within and embrace the kingdom that is within me. For David, blessings flowed to him from the outside – in. For me, everything flows from the inside – out. As the Apostle Paul stated, I “work out my salvation.” I rest in what I already possess in my spirit and bring it to my soul (mind), body, and my world.
As we ponder what we have learned during this season of Psalms let’s make sure we do it through a “New Covenant mindset.” I want to get the most possible out of…
