“The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.” (Psalm 1:4 NKJV)
“But how different are the wicked. They are like the chaff blown away in the wind.” (Psalm 1:4 TPT)
“But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.” (Psalm 1:4 NLT)
“The wicked [those who live in disobedience to God’s law] are not so, but they are like the chaff [worthless and without substance] which the wind blows away.” (Psalm 1:1 AMP)
“The wicked are not like this; instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away.” (Psalm 1:1 HCSB)
“The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.” (Psalm 1:4 ABIPE)
As I was reading Psalm 1:4 the Spirit brought Matthew 7: 24 – 27 (TPT) to mind…
“Everyone who hears my teachings and applies it to his life can be compared to a wise man who built his house on an unshakable foundation. When the rains fell and the flood came, with fierce winds beating upon his house, it stood firm because of its strong foundation. But everyone who hears my teaching and does not apply it to his life can be compared to a foolish man who built his house on sand. When it rained and the flood came, with wind and waves beating upon his house, it collapsed and was swept away.”
Just like the “Blessed Man” of Psalm 1, the “Wise Man” of Matthew 7, has a solid foundation (deep roots) firmly fixed on the Word of God (teaching of Jesus). When my thoughts, words, and actions, are aligned with the thoughts, words, and actions’ of my Daddy then my life will be strong, safe, and secure. In contrast, the “Wicked Man” of Psalm 1, and the “Foolish Man” of Matthew 7, ignore the wise counsel (teachings) and build their lives on foundations that are easily shaken and destroyed. Their lives may look good for a season or two, but do not last for the long haul. Reminds me of Mark 8:36 (NLT)…
“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
The “ungodly” (wicked) spend their whole lives laboring to build empires that in the end are worthless. Everything they amass is easily blown away like chaff in the wind. They do not have deep roots (firm foundations). They are not supplied from the river of God. Their fruit is not eternal, and their leaves will eventually wither and fall off the tree.
I am going to listen to what my Daddy has to say and apply it to my life as I meditate on…
