“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.” (Revelation 21:1 BSB)
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10 BSB)
“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and the Lamb will be within the city, and His servants will worship Him. They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night in the city, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun. For the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 22:3-5 BSB)
If you are anything like me, there have probably been times when you have looked into the nighttime sky and wondered what is out there (especially as a kid). Maybe you watched a movie or documentary that piqued your curiosity. Are we alone?
As a Bible believing disciple of Jesus, am I out of line to wonder? Could it be possible that the Creator of the Universe, in the vastness of His creation, created life beyond this singular planet? Does that thought conflict with Scripture? Honestly, I’m not sure.
I don’t know the answer to this question. I don’t know if all of the discussion and speculation around “aliens” has any credibility. I don’t know if there are aliens, or if we are seeing glimpses of angelic beings (faithful or fallen). I’m content for the moment to leave that as an interesting discussion. I have other areas of interest that consume my time and attention. However, this does spark a couple of questions.
What if…
…there is a race of humans on another planet that did not sin?
What if…
…Adam had chosen to lead Eve in righteousness, resist the devil (serpent), and reject the temptation to turn his back on God in willful rebellious disobedience?
This leads me to another question…
…What would it look like on Planet Earth in 2025 if from the start until today it was a perfect world in which there was no sin, sickness, death, or influence of the devil?
Ponder that for a moment.
Well my friend, that is exactly how the world was for a brief moment in time prior to Adam’s fatal choice. That is how it will be again once this current age comes to a close.
There are those who believe that things will get progressively worse as the Church (those who follow Jesus – “christians”) loses its relevance and influence in society. Then, in the nick of time, those who follow Jesus will be swept away by Jesus Himself to escape the coming wrath and tribulation.
There are those who believe the world will go to hell in a handbasket, and the Church will be forced to go underground to avoid massive persecution. That those who follow Jesus will suffer rejection, imprisonment, abuse, torture, and even death for their faith at a level never before seen on this planet. At the lowest point in human history Jesus will rescue His followers, and then they will return together to save the day and make everything right.
Finally, there are those who believe that as time moves forward the Church will rise up, fulfill the original mission given to Adam and the “Great Commission” given by Jesus, filling the Earth with God’s Glory. That the world will experience the progressive manifestation and demonstration of the Kingdom of Heaven (also called the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Light) as the power of the Gospel prevails and the Bride of Christ adorns herself as the Bride without spot or wrinkle ready for her returning Groom.
Regardless of what takes place between now and then, I do know that one day there will be a New Heaven (atmosphere) and a New Earth in which a sinless human race will dwell hand in hand with their Father (the Almighty Creator), ruling and reigning from the perfect Kingdom of Heaven on Earth for all of eternity.
(Side note – I personally think that from the earth we will be free to roam the vastness of our Father’s universal creation spreading His Kingdom wherever we go – I hope so, we shall see.)
What if…
…regardless of our current surroundings, or what’s ahead of us, right now we lived with no doubt, no limitations, no fear of failure or harm, no hesitation to grow and change and develop and become all that we were created to be?
What if…
…today, at this very moment, we lived with full expectation of the fulfillment of the prayer of Jesus’ disciples in our lives…
…Thy Kingdom (the full manifestation of the Kingdom of Heaven) come, Thy will (the perfect desire and design of our Creator) be done (in my life here and now), on Earth (the dwelling place of the human race) as it is (in the same manner and to the same degree) in Heaven (the dwelling place of Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth).
I can hardly imagine…
