Before exiting this current “Season of Psalms”, Daddy has directed me to go back and spend more time in Psalm 119:1-16. These verses are foundational in understanding the significance of memorizing, and meditating on, scripture. Once upon a time memorization was foundational in both the Church and Education. It was known back in the day that there was great value in filling the head and heart with important information. Based on the common approach to meditation, which was the repeating of phrases over and over again, “rote memorization” was developed. This approach to internalizing information bypassed reasoning and simply deposited the information for future use. Little by little the idea that information without full cognitive understanding was of no real value began to diminish the emphasis on memorization and meditation. I believe that this was a planned attack by the enemy to eliminate the benefits spoken of here in Psalm 119.
I will pick up on this idea as we go along. For today, let’s continue with the approach that has been established and simply read, and ponder, these 8 verses in their entirety…
Psalm 119:9-16 (NKJV)
9.How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
10.With my whole heart I have sought you; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11.Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
12.Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes.
13.With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.
14.I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
15.I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.
16.I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
I am excited to see what Daddy has to say as I ponder…
