“I praise you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.” (Psalm 119:12 NLT)
“Blessed and reverently praised are You, O LORD; teach me Your statutes.” (Psalm 119:12 AMP)
“LORD, may You be praised; teach me Your statutes.” (Psalm 119:12 HCSB)
“You are blessed LORD JEHOVAH; teach me your commandments.” (Psalm 119:12 ABIPE)
I have been raised in a highly rational world. The mind has been elevated far above the spirit. In many cases the spirit is not even recognized. The idea of investing the time and effort to memorize something without first having full understanding is considered of little or no value. While there may be some legitimacy to that view with non spiritual information, it is definitely not applicable to the spiritual information contained in Scripture. The written Word is alive. It’s depth of value goes far beyond the limited comprehension of the mind. It is revelation which can only be fully understood by way of the direct teaching of the One who inspired it in the first place.
The Apostle John wrote about this fact in 1 John 2:27, “And as for you, the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But just as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things and is true and is no lie, and just as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him.” (Berean Study Bible) Look what he wrote in John 6:45, “It is written in the Prophets: And they will all be taught of God. Everyone having heard from the Father and having learned, comes to me.” When Jesus asked the disciples who they thought He was Peter answered that He was “the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus reply to Peter applies directly to what we are talking about today, “Jesus replied, You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.” (Matthew 16:17 NLT).
The best way to learn is to be taught from the Word of God by the Holy Spirit. As I write this it is my hope that everyone who will read it will invest the time and effort to go directly to the “Word” that I am writing about and ask the Holy Spirit to teach them from it.
Father please teach me as I hide Your Word in my heart and think about…
