David was literally surrounded by an army whose only objective was to take his life. He was not cheapening his faith by entering into denial. He was not simply pulling the covers over his head in order to give himself a false sense of security. No, he was fully aware of the trouble all around him, and yet he was able to sleep like a baby with absolutely no fear. He looked his enemy straight in the eye and chose not to fear.
I have been accused of being in denial when I have chosen to speak the victory in the midst of what appears to be complete defeat. On more than one occasion someone close to me has felt the need to point out my “foolishness” as I have spoken healing in the midst of apparent sickness. Many times, as I have said “I am strong” in the middle of obvious weakness, concerned individuals have tried to straighten out my “confusion.” All I can say is that I will follow David’s example, recorded for my encouragement by the Holy Spirit, in how I chose to think, speak, and act, in the midst of difficulties.
Even when my emotions scream of fear, and my mind wants to wander into the wilderness of terror, I will take every thought captive and consider the words that I speak. When I keep my eyes on my Daddy, my thoughts fixed on His promises, and my words guided by the Truth, regardless of what is all around me; I am able to caste out all fear and sleep like a baby.
I will have sweet dreams as I focus on…
