“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7 NLT)
“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life – whether you have enough food or drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are?” (Matthew 6:26 NLT)
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” (Philippians 4:6 NLT)
Do you have any pets?
Through the years I have had a number of pets. I have experimented with rabbits, hamsters, dogs, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, gold fish, and a few other critters. I hate to admit it, but I need to swallow my pride and admit that I am a cat person. Don’t judge me!
Today I am renting space in my brother and sister in laws basement. They have a large dog named Biscuit. As I was watching Biscuit sleep it hit me just how content animals are. When I look at Biscuit I can’t help but think about just how little worry she has. She just flows in life because she knows that she is loved and will be taken care of.
The Bible makes a point about the fact that God takes care of animals, and how much more He will take care of us. And yet, as human beings we get so caught up in life that we spend half of our waking hours thinking about how we are going to deal with what comes next. We even deceive ourselves into believing that worrying is a positive thing. How many times have you heard that it is a parent’s job to worry about their children? Or maybe we sugar coat it and say that we are “concerned” in order to make our worry acceptable.
Sometimes I need to just stop, and realize, I am provided for. I am not on my own. Hindsight is twenty-twenty. Looking back I can clearly see that most of my worries were totally unnecessary. How many times have you worried about something that never happened? When I worry I am projecting thoughts of harm and experieincing the emotions that go with those thoughts. I feel the pain of something regardless of whether or not it actually happens. As far as I am concerned, that is just plain foolish.
Let’s not worry today. Let’s cast those cares on Jesus, for He cares for us.
Thank you Lord for…
