“When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” (John 19:30 NLT)
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 NKJV)
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live.” (Deuteronomy 10:19 BSB)
I heard a well known universalist say, “Everyone is already saved. Jesus said ‘it is finished.’ The evangelical church says ‘not so fast, you must believe, receive, confess, repent then it may be finished.’ Jesus did it all. There is nothing left for anyone to do in order to be saved, not even recognize a need for a savior. Knowing that it is God’s will that no one perishes means that any other possibility makes the will of man greater than the will of God.”
Here is my response…
…By His sovereign design my Creator gave me the authority and ability to make eternity impacting decisions which frees me to violate his desire for me to spend eternity in union with him. Just like Adam, I have been given the right to reject his plan of redemption.
I don’t believe the key issue is whether or not I accept Christ in every and all situations, otherwise an aborted baby would spend eternity in hell. To be more accurate to scripture I believe the key issue is whether or not I “reject” Christ.
The work is 100% finished without me doing anything. However I was given the freedom to reject what has been done.
Be like a Berean and study the scripture to see which statement above is true as you prayerfully consider…
