“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 BSB)
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [h]moves on the earth.” (Genesis1:26-28 NKJV)
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.a He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.” (Revelation 21:1-7 NLT)
When the Father created this Earth He was on a mission to replicate His spiritual dwelling place in the physical realm. When He sent Jesus to reconcile His fallen creation to Himself, He was continuing that same mission. One day, when the New Jerusalem descends from Heaven to this Earth, the Father will complete His mission on the Earth and continue throughout the Universe. He has always been, and will always be, on a mission.
When the Father created Adam and Eve, He gave them the Earth, and brought them into His mission. When He sent His Son to this Earth He took steps to bring all of mankind into His mission. When the New Jerusalem descends, and the Father dwells on Earth, all of mankind will join in His mission.
Even though Satan and one third of the Angels rebelled, and led mankind into rebellion with them, the Father’s mission has never been stopped. From the beginning to the end (and beyond) the Father, Creator and Ruler of the Universe, has continued His heavenly expansion program.
The amazing thing is that He has chosen to share that mission with me. I am His child, and I am co-missioned with Him to fulfill His design and desire (Will) for His creation. I am not here by chance. I am not an evolved amoeba on my way to becoming one with the force.
At some point in the eternal past the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit decided to create a physical realm out of their eternal spiritual realm. The Godhead set in motion a continuing creative venture in which the Kingdom of Heaven would be replicated in the physical realm, and expanded throughout creation. Genesis gives us the record of the beginning of this expansive creation program.
For reasons beyond my current understanding, Adam and Eve were created to partner with the Father in His creation. As a descendant of Adam I am created in the image and likeness of the Creator. Through my redemptive relationship with Jesus I have become a friend, and partner, with my Daddy in the family business of filling this Earth (and Universe) with His Presence and Glory.
Realizing that I am co-missioned with my Father to carry out His creative design and desire (Will) for all of His creation makes all other details of my life fade in significance. Holy Spirit, please renew my mind with the magnificent purpose, and powerful possibilities, of…
