“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.” (Hebrew 11:1-2 NKJV)
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” (Hebrews11:3 NKJV)
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1 NKJV)
Have you ever been called on to give a witness in a court room? If you have then you know just how important that it is that your words are accurate and honest. In Hebrews 11:1 – 12:2 we are given a list of witnesses whose lives gave an accurate and honest testimony to the benefit, and necessity, of living by faith.
This is not a list of individuals witnessing my life, but rather a list of those who I can witness as they give testimony to their lives. These are the “Hall of Faith” witnesses from which I can learn, and from whom I can pattern my life. Their testimonies have been recorded as an example to me.
I recommend that you read Hebrews 11:1 – 12:2. It all starts and finishes with the testimony of Jesus, so that’s where we will start tomorrow as we unfold…
