“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.” (Hebrews 11:1-2 NKJV)
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command. By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them. By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.” (Hebrews 11:23-29 NKJV)
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV)
There are so many things that I am able to learn from the life of Moses that this could easily be my longest blog yet. However, I am purposely being selective on what I share. I think the main thing that jumps out to me about Moses is his weakness. While he was trained with all of the resources of Egypt, raised for greatness, and eventually directly commissioned by the Creator of the Universe, he was very self aware of his weakness.
The Apostle Paul unlocks the secret of Moses’ greatness as he points out how we are to experience God’s greatness through our weakness. Moses was used as the greatest deliverer in the Old Testament, not because of his greatness, but because of God’s greatness shining through his weakness. When I am weak then I am strong! God’s grace is sufficient!
