“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promisies are your armor and protection.” (Psalm 91:4 NLT)

“He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield.” (Psalm 91:4 HCSB)
“In his feathers he shall deliver you and under his wings you shall have refuge; his truth shall surround you as a supply of armor.” Psalm 91:4 ABIPE)
John 8:32 says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
In John 14:6 we read, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.”
Freedom comes from having intimate interaction with the truth. The truth is revealed in the Word (Jesus). The way to have an intimate relationship with my Daddy (my Heavenly Abba Father), the Creator of everything that exists, is to embrace the truth that He reveals in me. That is what Psalm 91:4 is talking about.
As I live in the “promises” of my Daddy, He reveals His truth to my spirit which in turn renews my mind, enlivens my body, and transforms my personal world. It is in the center of His truth (The Word) that I find “refuge.” His truth (Word) is the “armor,” and a “wall” of protection around me. The Apostle Paul gives me a deeper understanding of this in Ephesians 6:10-18…
“A final word: be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against rulers and authorities of the unseen world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good news so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occassion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for believers everywhere.”
Psalm 91:4 promises me that when I live in the truth I will be kept from harm. It doesn’t say that there won’t be attacks, but it does give me a clear promise that the attacks will not harm me. That promise is so far removed from what seems to be the “normal” experience of life that the only way that I will be able to live in it is to completely immerse myself in the Word. After all, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17).
Let’s step up to the promise of Psalm 91:4 and take time to meditate on…
