“Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength. because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.” (Psalm 8:2 NKJV)
“You have built a stronghold by the songs of children. Strength rises up in the chorus of infants. This kind of praise has power to shut Satan’s mouth. Childlike worship will silence the madness of those who oppose you.” (Psalm 8:2 TPT)
“You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.” (Psalm 8:2 NLT)
“Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babes You have established strength because of Your adversaries, that You might silence the enemy and make the revengeful cease.” (Psalm 8:2 AMP)
“Because of Your adversaries, You have established a stronghold from the mouths of children and nursing infants to silence the enemy and the avenger.” (Psalm 8:2 HCSB)
“From the mouth of young men and boys you prepared your song, because of your enemies, to destroy the enemy who avenges.” (Psalm 8:2 ABIPE)
For many years my wife Melody and I ministered together to nursery and preschool children in our Church. The last group that we had were 3 year olds. My favorite time with them was when we would sing children’s praise and worship songs and share the Bible lesson. There was an openness, and innocence, among them that made this time especially rewarding. They were like little sponges soaking in every word. When they sang it was like little angels making a joyful noise to the Lord.
The enemy hates it when children praise the Father. It stops him in his tracks. Psalm 8:2 reminds me of the time when Jesus rebuked His disciples for trying to keep the children away from Him. Matthew wrote, “One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. But Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like children.’ And he placed his hands on them and blessed them before he left.” (Matthew 19:13-15 NLT) Matthew also wrote, “Truly I tell you,’he said, ‘unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter into the kingdom of the heavens.” (Matthew 18:3 BSB)
As I was pondering Psalm 8:2 Daddy brought the following verses to mind…
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” (Proverbs 18:21 ESV)
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:17 NKJV)
“Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:17 NLT)
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 NLT)
Putting this all together, here is what I believe I am hearing from Daddy…
…”Eric my son, as you humble yourself and worship me with childlike faith, speaking and singing praises of thanksgiving, the Word that comes from your mouth is the weapon that silences our enemies. As you unleash the power of My Word through your mouth, resisting our adversary, he will run away.”
